AssurCard’s role
At the request of a number of insurance companies AssurCard organises a third-party payment system for supplementary hospitalisation insurance.
To do this we operate a platform which supports communication between:
- patients and insurers
- hospitals and insurance companies.
The ultimate goal is to send bills for accepted admissions directly to the insurers, so that they can advance funds on behalf of patients
We can make a distinction between three steps:
- The hospitalisation declaration submitted by the patients (with possible acceptance by the insurer)
- Confirmation of admission by the hospital
- The hospital sends the (electronic) bills to the insurance company
AssurCard keeps contacts between patients and insurance companies (declaration + acceptance) separated to a maximum from those between the patients and hospitals.
Kiosk in the hospital
AssurCard offers the member hospital the possibility of having a kiosk installed, which means that the patients can contact their insurers at any time of day to declare a hospitalisation.
We bear all costs for communication, installation and maintenance.
With some companies the declaration can also be submitted via the Internet or by telephone.
AssurCard does everything possible to minimise additional effort for hospitals. We solely ask you to enter the admission in our admissions application and to alter the billing data. This means you receive an immediate online decision from the insurer as to whether the patients are entitled to the third-party payment system.
Electronic billing
To accelerate payment, AssurCard provides you with a user-friendly application which creates electronic bills on ordinary magnetic tape files. The billing data is thus selected and prepared for electronic transmission.
This method ensures that bills can be processed more rapidly by insurance companies. It also enables sending the paper version (a copy) to patients for information purposes (given that the original bill is sent electronically to the insurer).
You naturally retain full control over which precise details are included for transmission.
Your contact partner
As a result of developing a common platform, you can cooperate with various insurers using the same procedure. The cooperation agreement is concluded with AssurCard, so that no separate discussions have to be held with each insurer.
We are also your contact partner for practical questions, operational problems or suggestions to improve existing procedures.
You refer patients who request information about the security offered by their insurance policy immediately to their insurance company. After all, this third-party payment system is linked to a policy concluded between the patients and their insurers.
Decisions on allocating a card or advancing funds for bills are exclusively made by the latter. AssurCard has absolutely no influence in this area.
