Who is AssurCard?
AssurCard NV was set up by AGF/Allianz, ING Insurance and KBC Verzekeringen in mid 2001. AssurCard NV’s goal as a company was to develop and operate a computerised third-party payment system.
At the start of 2002 Ethias acquired 25% of the shares through a capital increase. This has created 4 shareholders, each of which hold 25% of the shares.
The third-party payment system for supplementary hospitalisation insurance was the first concrete project that came to fruition. When setting up the company it was also intended to make this electronic platform available to all insurance companies and thus to develop a standard for the market.
This meant it became possible for Fidea, Mercator Verzekeringen and delta Lloyd Life and Federale Assurance to market AssurCard along with the shareholders.
From its foundation AssurCard’s goal was to safeguard freedom of action for insurers. However, only one procedure is offered to service providers, so that they can cooperate with all companies using the same procedures.
AssurCard's role
- The supplementary hospitalisation insurance third-party payment system facilitates the maximum electronic submission and acceptance of claims and their automation.
- AssurCard also offers a network of hospitals which in accordance with agreed procedures confirm admission, receive the decision on access to the third-party payment system and in the event of a positive decision forward the invoices directly to you.
- We also support the billing aspect, which means that the hospital can transmit the invoices electronically.
Free choice
Each company can naturally decide which modules are of interest to it and fit into its commercial, product and acceptance policy. AssurCard adopts a completely neutral position in these areas to avoid influencing mutual competition.
