What do you have to do when you are hospitalised?

You declare a hospitalisation as soon as you know you will be admitted to hospital. How? See the next question. Your insurer will then decide whether he will advance the costs of the hospital stay or not.

It is important to show your AssurCard to the hospital admissions staff when registering on the day of admission.

How do you contact your insurer to pass your declaration?

There are three different communication channels, depending on your insurance company, you can use one or more of them:

General

  • Via the AssurCard kiosk in the hospital

You find this terminal in most Belgian hospitals. How to use it is explained here. For some insurers it is the only channel via which a declaration can be done.

  • Via the Internet at home

You can simply declare a hospitalisation at home via this website by clicking on 'declare a hospitalisation' at the top of this screen.

  • By telephone

You contact your insurer by telephone. He will go through a number of questions with you. He can then tell you immediately whether he will advance your hospital bill or not.

Specific procedure for your insurer.
